May is a fantastic month to be a knitter, crocheter or even just a yarn-hoarder as for the whole of the month you get a whopping 35% off a wide range of DROPS yarns.
The May sale includes lines featuring wool and alpaca so, whether you’re looking for superfine laceweight yarn or super-chunky, you should find something to suit. The lines that Wool Zone stocks that are included in the sale are: Lace, Kid-Silk, Baby Merino, Baby Alpaca Silk, Alpaca, Delight, Fabel, Karisma, Lima, Big Delight, Big Merino, Nepal, Eskimo and Andes.
Savings like these provide the perfect opportunity to stock up on all your favourite projects (after all, the more you spend the more you save!!) so here are some ideas to start you off.
How about Sunset Mountains, a stunning mitred square blanket in eight shades of DROPS Fabel? I’m currently about half-way through making this and am really enjoying watching the colours blend together. The yarn to make this blanket would normally cost £34.50 but, during the sale is only £22.50.
If you’re knitting for children then Daisy Delight is available as a sweater or a cardigan pattern for ages 3/4 – 11/12 years. This design would work well in Lima or Karisma and, during the sale will cost between £10.50 and £13.50. There’s also a pattern for an adult version which you can see here.
If you prefer a super-chunky quick knit then take a look at Summer Shells – a top-down knitted jumper worked in Eskimo. The pattern is for sizes S – XXXL and the yarn to knit this costs between £13.75 and £21.25 during the sale.
Browsing the vast catalogue of DROPS patterns will always turn up something to add to my ‘to make’ list but DROPS yarns also work well with other patterns. My current favourite, spotted at Wonderwool Wales, is the Sinister Catdigan designed by Marna Gilligan (although I will have to stick to the sweater version as I’m still not brave enough to steek!). I think this will work well in DROPS Alpaca.
If crocheting is more your thing then take a look at the Nature Rules blanket in Drops Delight. During the sale the yarn costs just £16.50.
Finally, Helsinki is a crocheted multi-colour sweater or cardigan in Karisma. The pattern is available in sizes S – XXXL and the yarn to make this costs between £26.10 and £39.15 during the sale.
I hope this post has given you some food for thought. Happy browsing!
