Once again Innocent and Age UK have teamed up to raise money to help keep older people warm this winter. The call is out to knit mini hats for innocent smoothie bottles.
Age UK get 25p for every be-hatted bottle sold. The money raised goes to help make winter warmer for old people – providing warm stuff like electric blankets, or bringing people together for local activities and hot meals. Age UK Leicestershire & Rutland are aiming to raise £10,000 by knitting 40,000.
My aim is for Wool Zone to contribute 500 mini hats so I’m going to need all the help I can get!! The hats can be as simple or as complicated as you like. The beginner pattern is ideal as a starter project and if you call into the shop I’m happy to help you get started. You can also play with all sorts of embellishments: my two latest hats use buttons – simple but effective!
You can find the patterns for these and all sorts of other designs from pineapples to Clangers at Jo’s Big Knit http://www.thebigknit.devonartist.co.uk/patterns.html or why not use your imagination and design your own hat? I’ve also got hard copies of the basic hat pattern in the shop so pop in next time you’re in Oakham. A crochet version is also available.
To help reach the target, I’m offering two £10 gift vouchers: one for the most innovative Big Knit hat and one for the most prolific Big Knit knitter. Please bring (or post) your hats to Wool Zone by the end of September 2015.
